3 Killed in MH Crash

I don't know any details. Also don't know if this is appropriate for this site. May they rest in peace.

April 01, 2010 10:43 PM

Associated Press
MONTICELLO, Fla. - Three Kentucky vacationers were killed when their motorhome crashed in the Florida Panhandle.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 78-year-old William R. Gore was driving west on Interstate 10 Thursday afternoon when a tire on the right side of the RV blew out. The vehicle went off the road to the right, crashed into some trees and caught fire.
FHP reports that Gore, 82-year-old Dona M. Gore and 78-year-old Ruth Wyatt were killed in the crash. All three were from Paducah, Ky.
The crash occurred near Monticello, about 25 miles east of Tallahassee.

It's never a good day when you see stuff like this. Can't get into the man's head that's for sure.

If this happens to anyone here on the outside chance that one might get a front blow out . . . "do not step on the brake" . . . but hammer down on the gas pedal. You will establish control and then guide yourself to the right side of the road and gradually come to a stop without using the brakes.

See the Michelin website for a video detailing this procedure.

Trucenter, Safe-T-Plus, or whatever option, get one installed for peace of mind and safety.

Here is the link to the video that Driver references:

We'll remember these fellow RVers in our prayers.

Ditto DriVer -- never step on the brakes as that is a sure way to loose control. I blew a RF tire on our previous MH enroute to New Orleans and we had a hell-u-va ride until we got her stopped. Minor damage to the MH versus what could have been.

Thanks for posting this. I never would've thought to NOT step on the brake but to step on the gas. Valuable information.

Again the forum comes through. Even-though the op was tragic, there are always lessons to be learned. Thanks for pointing the not so obvious out.

Prayers to the families.
