onan fuel pump 149-2620

Mine has apparently gone out. Have cleaned generator fuel system from fuel tank to carburetor bowl. Pump makes sounds when it's running, but no fuel comes out when fuel line is pulled loose and hit "Prime" setting. Is this a high failure item, and does anyone know where I can get one in less than a month?

As always, thanks in advance for any assistance.

onan fuel pump 149-2620

I just went through this same problem. After some searching I found out that is a common problem with this fuel pump. Mine wound run for 10/15 minutes and die, a little longer if the temp. was cooler. The replacement pump of the same number is hard to find in stock anywhere, I have one on order from Amazon but it says it usually ships in 1/2 months. What I did is ordered this pump from Amazon and just measured the overall length of the old pump and got fittings to match the length, installed some connectors and it bolted right up in the original location, a lot cheaper and it's available and it works, so far.Click image for larger version

You say you've cleaned the fuel line, "from fuel tank to carburetor bowl." but have you blown air in it to be sure the line isn't cracked or got a hole in it? If the pump motor is running perhaps you're just sucking air. I don't know why it would take a month for a replacement pump, Amazon has them and if you want to pay for it, you could get it overnight.

Before ordering, I'd check the fuel line and perhaps bench test the pump to be sure it needs replacing.

Oops, more careful reading of the Amazon listing does say 1-3 months shipping! They must wait for an order then start hand making the parts to be assembled and shipped in a sailboat across the Pacific.

The Onan pump is the same as the Airtex E11015 Electric Fuel Pump that Amazon lists. Googling that pump, Walmart offers it, Summit Racing is a little less than a month.

Bambuz(?) claims to have it in stock.

That might be the solution, the original pump itself says "replace with low pressure fuel pump". If it comes quickly, all the better.

Thanks very much!!!!

I did blow air through all the lines and the pump is where the whole systems falling out. I'm going to order another pump and do some plumbing work and see how that goes.

Someday soon I'll have this coach back up and running right.

Thanks everyone for your help!!!

calvdawg,
Did you replace the inline fuel filter? Mine has 2.
There has been trouble with the Genny fuel line having pinholes thus the pump sucking air. The line going into the tank is a pita to reach.
There is a post where someone used a new hose inserted into the large fuel filling line.

I'm going to replace all the rubber, filters & clamps while I'm under there, even the one coming from the tank. No sense in having to crawl up under there again in a year.

OE? Where's the adventure in that? Thanks, I searched everywhere and couldn't find this part, so I've bookmarked the page in case I can't find a cheaper suitable sub. Thanks very much for this info!!

Current Onan part number A047N929. It is a low pressure pump. Max pressure is 4 psi or you can override the float in the carburetor. If the pump is running, sounds like it is trying to suck air. It is fairly easy to remove the fuel pump on the HGJAB and test. Connect a short piece of hose on the inlet and see if it will pull fuel from a gas can. Max lift capability is 3 feet so don't hold the pump to high. It should flow a minimum of 2 gph. Static pressure on the outlet 2.5 - 4 psi.
