what is the trick to doing a search here

I am rather new to this forum but not to forums in general. I like this forum as the people here are helpful and friendly.

But please help me understand how to use the search to return anything besides the current posts. I do not want to waste your time asking a question that others may have asked and you nice folks have maybe repeatedly answered.
So what's the trick .....

Thanks again....

Cburg-

First off, welcome to winnieowners!

Second, you should add a signature to your user profile. It usually includes the year, make and model of your coach, but can include other information. A signature is appended to each post. To create/edit a signature, click on the "User CP" link in the orange bar at the top, then click on "Edit Signature."

Re: Searching. Use the "powered by Google" search box, or do the same thing by opening the Google search page and entering the query in this form:

<search term> site:winnieowners.com

The same company runs the Web site irv2.com. There is a Winnebago sub-forum on iRV2. You can search their site by changing the Google search to read:

<search term> site:irv2.com

Here are links to Google searches of winnieowners and iRV2 posts in the Winnebago subforum (f101) that contain the phrase "kitchen sink." For that second search, there are 348+ results. One of the posts listed is:

Installing single bowl kitchen sink

It's not a super-informative thread, but it serves as an example for searching.

And, as with any Google search, once the Google page comes up, you can use "Tools", "Images", etc. to narrow your search further.

Welcome.

There are two ways to search--the Google box or the search box below that, which has additional options. I don't think the latter are quite as advanced as some other forums.

When using the Forum's search there are a few tricks you can use.

First click on "Search" and then "Advanced Search" that will let you search Title only which can be a big help.

Next, keep your searches short. Leave out all acronyms shorter than 4 letters. The software ignores anything shorter than four letters. If you use common words your search will retrun too many results.

To search for two or three word phases put quotes around the phrase. If you search for Battery Box you'll receive results with battery in them and results with box in them and some with battery box. But if you search for "Battery Box" you'll only see that term in your results.

Advances search lets you choose the forum or forums you want to search and even if you want to limit your search to specific users.

So, click on Advanced Search, search Titles only, remove all common words. keywords must be 4 letters or longer and put quotes around phrases you want joined together not searched separately.

The search for this forum software is universally recognized as not very good. It's just a function of the forum software which is why the search the site with Google is so popular.

Here's the Advanced Search options:
