Our best friend and Winnebago traveling companion for nine years "Sammie" has passed on today. We will miss her in our travels.

Sorry for your loss as well. We lost our Wheaten Terrier a while back and still think of him every day. Terriers are a special kind of K9 and I'm sure he's watching you and still protecting his rig from Doggy Heaven.

I'm sorry Sammie's gone. I'm sure he was a terrific companion and a great co-pilot. We would never full-time RV without a dog. Yet every time one of our pets passes away, we swear we're never going to get another one. But somehow, we always end up with more.

You should morn Sammie's passing but don't forget to celebrate her life. Living on the road for 9 years, what an experience for a dog. I often think that my dogs are the envy of other dogs. They don't time the day by the arrival of the mailman but rather wander the wild places with me. Smelling coyote scat, drinking from hidden pools, always searching, always exploring.
I would be a wounded animal if I lost either of my dogs. I'm sorry for your loss.

Thank you all for the thoughtful replies. It gets better day by day although I see a new pup in our not to distant future.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your traveling companion. Sammie can't be replaced, but the new memories of a new pup will make the old memories even better

Sorry to hear of this loss. We lost our Bear suddenly early last year and he was the best traveling dog we'd ever had. It was a true heartbreak. We adopted Lucy 30 days later and, frankly, had some initial trouble accepting her. However, as time has passed and the pain of losing Bear has eased, Lucy is now a cherished companion.
The pain will ease and you will get another loving pet to share your travels and give that unconditional love.

We too lost a traveling companion early last year, a couple weeks after smlranger lost Bear. Chelsea loved to run like the wind when off leash. We were blessed to have her, and her little sister Bessie, who is now 3 years old. I can't imagine being without a dog in our lives.
I am very sorry for your loss in Sammie.

We are so sorry for your loss. We lost our Barkley last year and were lost without her. A couple months later we found Buddy at the local dog pound and adopted him.
He has been a wonderful traveler and has fit in real well with our life style. It would be hard for us as well to travel without a dog. They give you so much love and companionship.

It is so hard to lose our close friends and travelers. I have lost several and it is never easy, but it is too hard to be without one. Therefore, I have 2! Bless you for the great life you gave Sammie.

So sorry for your loss.....we too lost our newfie on an RV trip 2 years ago, his name was Sam. After we got home and about 3 months later we picked up our new travel friend "spirit". Although nothing can heal the sadness except time, having my new friend sit next to me while cruising cross country doesn't hurt...

We understand your grief. On March 27, 2007, we lost our fur kid only one day from home. She (Phoebe) had been ill the entire winter (many vet visits) and we headed home a few weeks early to get her home and to our vet. We were devastated and buried her in "her" back yard the next day. Three months later my wife "found" TWO 10 week old pups that we had to have and now they are seasoned RV veterans! Life goes on, but we never forget our former travel buddies.

I will mourn your loss as I mourn the loss of our travelling companion. Four days ago, just days before his 17th birthday we had to let our terrier mix - Taffy - go be with his friends. He was a veteran traveler and had many hours in the co-pilot seat of our pick-up and then motorhome.

Michael, I also am sorry for your loss of Taffy. I like to think that they are now running through a field of tall grass with all their fur friends laughing and enjoying their retirement. We have begun the search for another schnauzer to help us with our healing process.
Best Wishes
Steve and Cindy
