New to site. Slide out question 2016 Sightseer 33C

My wife and I are looking at a 2016 Sightseer 33C to purchase. What is holding us back is how the main slide raises 1” and then lowers 1” during its travel out and then back in. It is a very obvious up and down motion. Salesman told us this was normal to assure a good seal against the body. Seen lots of Class A slides, never seen one go up and then down during travel. I am quite sceptical with his explanation and wondering if anyone has run across this type of movement in a slide out before. Thank you for you help. gsg

It depends on the slide technology and the location. My 2017 Adventurer has three slides. Two of them are PowerGear SlimRack slides and they simply go in and out. No up or down movement.

But our smaller living room slide is on rams under the slide, I believe it’s called “in wall” or something similar and the rails have curved sections that raise the slide as it starts to go out and then drop the slide back down at the end of its travel. When it comes back in the slide travels up, back and down on the curved rails just the opposite of when the slide extended.

There are many motorhome slides that operate this way. I have no idea about the motorhome you’re looking at, but it is a legitimate function on many motorhomes.

My Class A 43' MH has a full wall slide on one side. When it goes out it drops at the end of travel about 2 inches. When it comes in it has to raise up that 2 inches to come in. My previous MH did that and in 2007 my 5th wheel did that,

The two smaller slides I have are Power Gear rack and pinion on one and Shwintek rails on the other. They do not drop.

Someone with your specific model will come along soon. Also you can call the Mfg and their support team can tell you what it does.

Slide out question

Thank you for the replies. I need to correct the year. It is a 2013 not a 2016. The unit has 3 slides also. The one I am concerned about is is on rams underneath the chassis also. Just never saw a slide go up and down like that before and in my old years I have learned to verify things I don’t understand.

Not a bad trait to have. That, plus not automatically trusting what the salesperson said is a good precaution when buying a motorhome.
